Description
Late Roman Intercisa Helmet II
The Intercisa II helmet is constructed from brass-riveted 18 gauge steel and lined with leather on the inside of the helmet, cheek plates, neck guard and nasal bar. The interior of the helm has an integrated leather suspension that can be adjusted to fit with an included leather cord. A leather cord to use as a chin strap can be tied between the two riveted rings on the inside of the cheek plates.
The cheek plates are riveted into internal leather bands and the rear neck guard plate is fitted to the helmet with a helmet-mounted buckle and strap. It can be removed if desired.
This late Roman Intercisa helmet is inspired by the Berkasovo helmet and is intended to be a simpler, soldiers helm of this helmet type. These helmets are a clear departure from the earlier Gallic family of helmets. Many intercisa were quite simple in their construction, but others could be more enveloping, complex and protective – such as this example.
